The War, The Election, "The Economy, Stupid".
This country has no shortage of issues. When I was in school at The University of Mississippi (no, that's not an oxymoron), I had the privilege to work on campus in the physics department. There was a girl there who was from Jamaica, and she always commented on how Americans "have to have a cause, and believe others should follow it, too." I tried to explain that Americans are a spoiled bunch, but good hearted and that is how we sleep at night. I think Amily had a point. We all get so worked up. The war in Iraq holds certain signifigance for me as a grave issue facing our nation....there is nothing wrong with (putting a halt to) global warming or saving animals from torture, or chaining yourself to a tree....I mean, this is America for Christ's sake. In this time, however, of all consuming issue-overload furthered by self-serving campaign-savvy talking heads, we need to take a moment to put it all in perspective. There are people dying in Iraq for this "war". There are people from America killing and being killed in OUR NAMES, as the government here is, what?...that's right OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people. All issues in the up and coming presidential election go through Iraq. One way or antother..all issues seem to. The soldiers are there fighting for the tree hugger and the hunter, the policeman and the repo-man, alike. They are there on our behalf, under orders from the man we should be assessing for proof of sanity. Our next president will have to deal with this fiasco and there is little room left for error. With what this president has spent and earmarked for Iraq alone....every American citizen could have free healthcare and a weekly makeover for twenty years. What president wouldn't love to do that...hell, we could even throw in the illegals, I mean...it's A LOT of money. Now the next president gets the bill and the country of Iraq, and a massive budget defficit. How different would our Economy be if, instead of invading Iraq full scale, we had moved the troops stationed there in the no-fly zones to Afghanistan, used full time army and let the reservists stay home? It is purely an excersise in wishful thinking, but let's put this into perspective....cost of war in Iraq is a site calculating the costs and estimating the interest on this war. Prepare for Shock and Awe...bean-counter style. Which of this countries Ills could have been solved had this war been avoided? The answer to the troubling economy?????? "IT'S THE WAR, STUPID!" At end of the day today....dow jones industrial average down a whopping 306 points from where it started this morning. It's going to dip below 12,000 soon and keep going. There aren't even 20% anymore who think Bush is doing a good job....are there?

Shock and Awe doesn't even begin to express my feelings on just seeing the numbers on that graph/clock. It took me a few minutes to stop staring at it. I saw $ for bullets and my Son's re-enlistment bonus. I saw all the flags and coffins. Basically, I saw death and despair. I am almost speechless at seeing and dealing with the actual reality and insanity of it all.
Well all I can say is it's a good thing that we wrapped up the issue in Afghanistan and dealt with the terrorists that actually attacked us. Before we started the war in Iraq. And now we can move on to the immenent threat from Iran....
After we wrap those up America can rally around the real issues facing us.... Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton.
We need to get our priorities straight here people.....
Yes, my post was chalk full of sarcasim. I actually meant the opposite of everything I said...
Exactly, Chisna...what could this country have accomplished without Iraq draining EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK?
Off topic, I am still fighting with AOL over the closing of my account. No response to my last 4 emails. I guess they just hope I will shut up and go away....
HA... ( not going to happen )
Here is a blog for the AOL MESH team. The ones who are supposed to deal with these issues. Seems like a pretty dead blog. But if you have had this TOS crap happen to you. And just want to voice your opinion to those who are supposed to deal with it. Here's the URL...

If enough people make noise they might listen. I am looking into other ways to make this public knowledge. Perhaps they will deal with it if they get enough bad feedback....
Free speech is my right, and I don't want to lay down like a dog and give in....
LOVE THE SARCASM....I speak sarcasm, fluently.
Hi all, I looked at that clock a few months ago and it's down right scary. Anyone who thinks continuing the drain on this country to fight this war is too stupid to continue contributing the gene pool.
Ahhhh, felt good to say that without worrying about my account.:)
Catch you all later.:)
My middle initial is actually S.
Sarcasm. Spoken fluently.
Okay, I didn't get TOS'd, but no one likes the title. This topic may be archived early. My point was that the Economy is BAD, but could have been in a much better state had we not wasted so much money and humanity on staying in Iraq.
I think part of the problem is that this administration does not care what happens to America. I honestly believe that. Bush has property in Paraguay, and I believe Cheney will likely move to Dubai.
Truth be told, I think Naomi Klein (I believe it's her) was right when she talked about the Shock Doctrine.
They have raped and pillaged Iraq, Afghanistan, and America. Shock them, and then grab what you can while the country is in shock.
I still think they'll try to hold onto power longer so that they can do the same thing to Iran. They see it as a lobster to be cracked and eaten - not as a country full of people. Not any more than they saw America, Iraq or Afghanistan as countries with real human beings.
This administration is filled with sociopaths out for whatever they can get, and when they are done, they will leave behind the ravaged husks of our nation and all the others they have destroyed. And I don't think they will leave until they are sated - but will they ever get to that point? Or will the thrill of destruction keep them in office until our nation is completely bankrupted?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Excellent points Dio/Mini. I believe they will continue to do what they have for ages. Crack lobsters and suck out all of the juice.
I agree. Con-job says it all. Like con men, they say whatever they have to. they use every trick in the book to distract from what they are doing, then they hole away all of their spoils and "poof" they are gone. What will it take to put this bastard and his chronies in their places before the November elections??? this is not politics as ususal, it is theft, espionage, and extortion at the highest levels of our government. I do not hate the president, but I reserve the right to, should I ever meet him.
