### Iraq War Cost

Some Consistency, Please?

Chisna needs a page, too. This is sooo true. When are you going to save me the trouble of cutting and posting your perfectly stated positions and join my crew???? It is a lowly justification for sending Americans to die and be maimed, yet it is their best excuse for going in. Defy them to use that same reasoning on an existing scenario which makes Saddam look like Mr. Rogers.

By Chisna:

It blew my mind the other day when reading about the lies that led to the Iraq war. The last reason given and the only one that holds any water with me.....Saddam was a cruel dictator. And many died and suffered under his rule....Reason enough to invade the nation, and make more suffer than would have or conceivably could have under Saddams rule...?No....There are ways to remove dictators from power, all out invasion being the very last option any nation should choose. Then I came across a article on INN... a very good independent news network that is just headlines. No opinion.....It stated that war is killing 45,000 people each month in the Congo. Half of those being children. This being the highest death rates since WWII.....Do we see this in American media..?Do we hear our mighty leader stating that the United States. The great humanitarian nation is holding this cruel dictators feet to the fire...? Well of course not...what's in it for Bush and his gang of thieves..? Oil...?Not enough... No bid contracts for Halliburton, and a nice kickback for Cheney...? Nope... Can they say going there would be helping fight the war on terror...? Nope...the Congo only has a 2% Islamic population.Do they think they would really have to sell us on helping the people of the Congo...?Hey, try us.... be honest with us for once. You might be surprised to find we really do care. But instead of telling us and Congress how you are going to do it... ask us first. Because until the democrats take over in 2009...we don't trust your judgement.

Shift To Torture As Acceptable

The War on Terror is really Control through Fear...and nothing more. Besieged by invisible enemies, many are willing to give up Liberty for Security. Benjamin Franklin said that those who would give up Liberty for Security deserve neither. And perhaps this is the goal of those who control the Terror Alert Level: To dismantle Liberty. They can sidestep the Law, the Constitution, and Decency just by raising the Fear level. And they use this Fear to defend unspeakable acts.

Torture is perhaps the most barbaric act I can think of. A bullet to the head at least brings a swift conclusion for the victim. But Torture treats the victim as a plaything. Saddam Hussein, perhaps the one man in Iraq who knew everything, was not subjected to Torture to learn his secrets. He was afforded the protections of the Geneva Convention. So why were others, with little to no knowledge of secrets, treated so harshly? I can only surmise that it was masochism and immoral intent of the captors.

This War Crime has yet to be given the full attention it deserves. It has yet to see true Justice served. Torture is not an American value. And no amount of Fear can cover it up, or excuse it.

How To Put A Face On Iraq

By SkylerWolf

THE IRAQ WAR HAS NO FACE:

For sometime now I have been trying to figure out, what is wrong with this war? This is a question I find hard to fathom. I am just unable to put my finger on it. Could it be all the lies we have been told? The obfuscation of truth? The pettiness of which this administration uses, so to make us seems lest then we are whenever we dare to ask any questions of this war to those in command of this war? Is it the blatant disregard for the troops in the absence of promises made but never followed through? The war profits being made on the backs of good men and women fighting for the freedoms of a people down on their luck and unable to pull themselves up to the imagined Democracy, we say they must have in order to exist as free people? Question after question follows itself, like a puppy chasing its own tail. The never ending quest for resolve and the end of spinning like a whirling dervish, seeking the final truth? The last true realization? The net result? A definitive verdict? An end to debate or questioning? That which concludes the final chapter? The end? How about none of the above. There is no end in sight. There will never be an end in sight. No matter how much you pray for one. Or ask for one. Or have a need for one. You must come to an unavoidably inevitable conclusion: This war has no face. Yes.It, this is the one truth that must be explored and placed upon placed under a microscope for all to see. Close up and firsthand. This war is faceless. This war is much like the haunting black mask that Mozart’s father wears in the movie Amadeus. This war dresses in the dual mask of some demented and evil harlequin, bent on near demonic purposes and malicious deeds, and characterized by a desire to do harm. On one face of the mask represents happiness. All is going well. The Surge is working. Iraqis are ready to stand up and fight for their own country. The green zone is peaceful and the people are happy. Candy and flowers abound. The Sunni, The Kurds. The Shia and the Shiite are more than ready to lay down their arm and live in harmony. All is right with the world.

First, you have the other side of the mask. The face of scorn. Anger. Ruthlessness. The scary face. The maleficent side of the dark coin, prompted by malign motives and appearing to wish evil on others. Both side are there. Both side exist. Both are a reality, which seen to take place, both at the same time. Without reserve and without and pretension. So now ask yourself, why is this? We have not given this war a face. We hide its nuances behind a mask of our choosing. We created the mask and gave it life. We are to blame for that duality. We are alone to blame for that reality. We fashioned and form that mask and we then we forced every man, woman and child. Every contractor and military man and woman to wear that mask for one reason one. We lied. We lied because we were lied to. The lie was created not out of spite or anger or even conviction. The lie was created to only one reason alone. Greed. People are making money off this war and they don't want you to come to terms with it. This war that has no face exist for only one reason which is the other face of greed, profits. Pure and simple profits. Profits are easy on the eyes. Profits make people happy. Money is joy and a gift and a boon to those making those profits. This is the happy face of the dark mask. For it does not matter who gets killed or maimed or loosed family members, loved ones and friend. Profits are good and good for you. The face of scorn on the other side of the face. Where the actual killing and maiming and terror and rape and bloodshed reside. The face that frightens you in the middle of the night, making you to see bogy-men at every street corner. In your closet and under your bed.The Scorn side of the mask, is to keep you under control. Ask no questions. Be obedient and follow all the rules. Even when there are no real rules, or plans, or structure or mandate.

So there you have it. The entire ugly, Godforsaken truth laid out bare and naked before you. All except one little question. How can you make all this end? Once and for all. Forever? The answer is this: You must be brave enough to rip the mask from the face of the person forcing us all to wear that dual mask. Then we are free of its grip. We must all be privy to flag draped coffins brought fresh in from Iraq and Afghanistan. We must be exposed to the reality that is really going on overseas. Every news agency must develop a conscience. Showing the flag draped coffin, of those who fought so valiantly for the 935 lies, which caused their death in the first place. That, would give this war a face. And we would have to look upon that ugly, godforsaken face and see, what we have done. So let us rip the 935 lies that created this mask in the first place and look upon the real face of this war and more likely than not, we shall see the angry faces of an entire Nation, sure to be at the doors of Washington DC, screaming for impeachment.

The "Fox News" Journal

DemLucky is a friend from another board who has a nack for hitting the nail on the head. In my futile effort to generate fresh content on my own....I can not resist quoting spot-on commentary posted here by such savants. And DemLucky, since you have not accepted my invitation to post, I hope that you do not mind me cutting and pasting it here.

By DemLucky

'Pot of java brewing and I open a few media resources to get the latest news...what's this? The Wall Street Journal..."Stopping Iran", a commentary by Norman Podhoretz? Norman Podhoretz, the crazy neoconservative? Podhoretz the radical? In the Wall Street Journal. Well, at least they clearly identify the article as "commentary", but how did it make Google's "Front Page" as a primary link? I smell sulfur eminating from the halls of the Wall Street Journal."To begin with, Iran was (as certified even by the doves of the State Department) the leading sponsor of terrorism in the world, and it was therefore reasonable to fear that it would transfer nuclear technology to terrorists who would be only too happy to use it against us".In this paragraph, we see the evil cunning of a con-man at work. "Doves" in the State Department? Please Norman, list their names so I can write them and encourage them to continue to fight for sanity in our foreign policy. But there are no "doves" are there Norman. It's really the sane versus the insane, and Mr. Podhoretz, you represent the most dangerous of the insane. You are given a credible forum to pervert and twist into a Neoconservative Pulpit from which you preach to the masses that America must create more war to "survive". To understand Podhoretz is to cross over to the dark side of humanity. The side that endorses a global war of the civilizations, that endorses creating such a strong disgust among Muslims with American Imperialism that conflict is inevitable. Norman Podhoretz's commentary is irresponsible and reckless and the Wall Street Journal is the same with Rupert Murdoch at the helm. To quote Podhoretz, "God help us all".'

Xaxeptance Gets an Invite

Xaxeptance449 is an acquaintance of mine from another board. He/She posted this on the War Board this morning:at 3 and it was sent to my by my dear friend Deb.

"When I wake up hot, hear babies crying, even the drunks and all night partygoers are silent. Bright raucous parrot finally perched cage covered finally with eyes open into the dim light of the room my mind searches for a name just one name so I can sleep. Am I the only one who searches, who needs to know? Tell me who died in Iraq! Tell me who went over there thinking they would return having done their duty; ready for school, homesick as hell; somebodys husband, a son's smiling picture over the fireplace. Tell me the names of those dead in Iraq so I can sleep as they sleep dead to the world and god dont tell me anymore. 16 soldiers died today. 4 soldiers were ambushed, 1 was shot by a sniper. These arent unmanned drones lazily cruising over sand shot down by missiles. These are men in their prime with blood in their veins, guys who drink beer and fart to get a laugh; kids who just wrote their sweetheart, fear stuffed tightly between scalp and helmet. Who are they god damn it, tell me so I can sleep and feel human again and grieve knowing that to care is not a casualty in this lied-about, absolutely-unecessary, insane war."

That is a commentary on the humanity and inhumanity of this "war". Those who would argue that this has to be done is speaking from the point of a con-man. He doesn't know....he may be right, he may be wrong, but he DOES NOT KNOW. And it is his confidence that sells over his logic. That is our president....confidence...oh, yeah. He's got that in spades. Logic......Let's just say it has been many a year since I have heard the words "logical" and "President's Policy" in the same sentence.

Time to Spice it Up

I have invited a few close allies to post articles here, and soon will get a few close opponents. Variety being the spice of life and all, I feel it necessary. There were two ways to set this thing up, then a plethora of options as to how it is run. One way would be to have a closed room with invitations only. I thought this might appeal to some with whom I enjoy discussion greatly; but I did not want to deny access to anyone as all should be heard. With what all has been going on in our old haunt (lowering the bar to insults, gotcha's, purely mean-spirited hatespeech, and entrapment) I see an attempt to polarize the political landscape and splinter any example, symbol, or microcosm of the cohesiveness this country had; the instigators doing so are using extremely annoying pathological and manipulative language and tactics. I decided to give my internet friends a place to come and play, however or whatever it took. I am not special, anyone can make a blog page, apparently. I could fix it where you DONT have to have yahoo e-mail to get in, or you have to have special permission to get in, or anywhere in-between. I am going to get some right wingers in here to post as soon as i can find one who is intellectually honest to his or her position and defends it without insult. I am also inviting a few familiar faces. You'll know if they accepted my humble requests when you see their title pages at the beginning. Any and all comments or suggestions on how this can work better for you are welcome.

Today's topic: "The road to the white house needs to go through Bagdad." We should force the conversation back toward Iraq and what this country really expects out of our next president in that regard . Would the Democrats have tried harder if the American people had DEMANDED change (in all caps just like that)? I think so....write letters, write blogs, send e-mails. If the congress and the president can't hear the will of the people, make it so it is impossible for them to ignore it.
