The War On Iraq
We have been fighting a war for over six years now. What have we gained? The war in Iraq, or like my friend JP says the war ON Iraq has become a symbol of the manner in which this administration operates on ALL fronts. Deceipt, secrecy, and manipulation of fear have been the key tools of this embarrasing chapter of American government. That is my opinion, for the most part. The reason i joined the discussion in another forum on this topic is the death of my little brother just over a year ago. He came home from Iraq war #1 with problems that were never acknowledged or treated by the VA untill it was to late to make a difference. He was 34. When we went in to Iraq for the second time...I was apprehensive to say the least. My apprehension has proven correct as politicians play on the short attention span of the masses....covering up the corruption and spinning the truth. By the time most people see the spin for what it is, the crooks are too far gone to answer the charges. America is way better than torture and wars fought on flimsy footing. We are a community who cares; military and non military, conservative and liberal. Freedom of speech is sacrosanct on my blog....say what you will, but defend it with facts. We're all only human. TOSing will get you the boot....permanent-like.

Thanks, Huck
No problem. Come one, come all...no topic off limits, all rational discussion is welcome.
Great blog, Huck! I hope you get a LOT of traffic - I know I'll be checking in. :) P.S. - love your comments on AOL.
P.S. - it shows me as Mini, because I used to be "MiniRtist", but you will probably know me as Diogenes2008 (or Fear Vs Reason).
LOVE IT HUCK and thank You
Hello Dio
Thanks Huck. You've given us a place where we don't have to worry about looking over our shoulder waiting for the axe to drop on our accounts.
I have to admit, I'm still freaked out about Huckabee and his comment about changing the Constitution to fit "God's Law". Even if that WERE a good idea (and it definitely is NOT), who would be the final arbiter on what "God" wants?
I can't imagine a heavenly finger would come down from the sky to rewrite the Constitution, or it would have happened already.
So Huckabee believes he knows what God is thinking? Isn't that the very definition of delusional?? Not someone you would want running America, that's for sure!
I agree, Dio, Huckabee is one scary guy.
Good Morning, Huck...Thanks for starting this blog and thanks to Mrs. Daze for the invite. This, I have to admit, is my first blog attempt. I've only done the board thing and it is refreshing to know that only friendly people will be coming here. I'm so sorry to read about your brother. It really does bring a face to the realities of this horrendous war.
I agree - I think Huckabee is the most dangerous candidate up there right now. Exactly what we DO NOT need is another zealot in the white house. To put it in Huckabee's language, let's just say that the Consitution is perfect as is - handed down by God to the founding fathers - and should be followed according to the way they followed it in their day - no changes. Isn't that the definition of a fundamentalist?
Of course that would mean undoing all the radical interpretations the Bush admin came up with. Give me a Libertarian - I'll vote for 'em!
Good Morning, Huck...I hope this finally gets to the blog space. Believe it or not, I've never "blogged" before. Anyway, thank you for starting this and thanks, as always, to Mrs. Daze for the invite. It is nice to know that a person can post without fear of being TOS'd for "saying it like it is."
Thanks Huck, I just hope that this war in Iraq is the wake up call that America needs to get back on the road to being the humanitarian and ethical society that we all want to believe it truly is....
Sometimes we need to reveal, and see... our ugly side to realize that isn't who we are or who we want to be....
First and foremost is how do we treat those who put their lives on the line for this nation.
Do we cover up the pain and suffering...? Do we hide the suicides by those in the military..? Apparently we do....
It hit home in my family this Christmas. And the real cause of death was hidden. Died in the line of duty was what the death certificate said. Of course this give's my cousin and her kids full benefits. But that should be the case anyway. He was still fighting the war, in his mind. And like so many others. He lost that battle.
The truth will come out.... it most likely will not be known until this corrupt administration is out of office. Congressional oversight has been turned into a joke by these criminals who continue to subvert our constitution. And damage ths image of America in the worlds eyes for decades to come.
My Mom just told me that Obama is passing around literature saying something to the effect that God told him to run as president. Did anyone else hear anything on that?
Thank you for starting this blog, Huck!
I think you're right. Most reasonable people, no matter their political leanings, realize that our country cannot continue on the same path to destruction that we are on now. If we do not make some drastic changes, the United States of America, as envisioned by our founding fathers, will no longer exist.
(AKA wolfo534)
I agree Chisna. As more and more Families are affected, this has got to be stopped. How did we come to this point, as a Country?
It is no secret to most of You here that I have a Son currently in the Navy.
I have a scream in my head that will not go away.
I walk and I talk and I function.
But imagine all of the people in this Country who have lost loved ones, who have loved ones engaged in this madness.
Imagine what is is like for the People in Iraq.
I am not sure if any of you read this from the NY Times on Sunday..It upset many people because it covers crimes committed by US Soldiers returned from Iraq and Afghansitan. It reflects badly on we as a nation for putting the soldiers through this in the first place, and not giving them the medical and mental attention they need and deserve when returning.

Thanks Huck - this should be a nice place to visit
How did I miss this...boy the media in general is sure keeping a tight lid on this one....
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/11/13/stunning-cbs-news-disc_n_72417.html
As well as the Iranian speed boat incident.
That one hardly even mentioned now.
I thought it was supposed to be a BIG deal....
Wow, just in time! Thanks sturange for the invite, I just lost all my message board access. I promise to be a good blogger, really. Thanks Huck for creating this site.
Chisna, the numbers are astounding regarding suicides. I also read a related article where the Iraq Defense Minister declares the need for US troops until 2018. Can the US even afford that? Or do you think he's referring to a UN peacekeeping force?
No, thank you all. By keeping the average voter in the dark about the REALITIES of this operation, the military is only hurting us all. Is anyone surprised? Where are the "imbedded media" so touted at the onset of this fiasco. No photos of coffins, either. No stomach for the mess most of us allowed to start, but that Bush and company has refused to halt. Like an addict, his defiant actions speak all too clearly for themselves.
Yes, it appears that the AOL boards are all down at the moment.
Did HR1955 pass...?
Are we considered radicals now...?
That Dang piece of paper keeps getting in the way of the poor neocons....
"A dictatorship would be a whole lot easier, as long as I am the dictator". King George
There were 3 times that the decider said this... I guess that didn't send up any red flags with the American right though...
They like having others do the decidering for them...
Sorry I was having issues with my wireless....
Stay until 2018...? We should perhaps require that they meet certain benchmarks, political and in stepping up their own security.
Without those, they will drag their feet and let us do it for them. Just like Saddam did it for them. He was their decider.
They need to take a crash course in how to do things for themselves.
Yes, I could see a American presence until 2018...
But minimal... perhaps we will still be trying to rebuild that which our bombs destroyed.
Medical care for the babies deformed by our depleted uranium.
Things like that.....
But nothing even close to what we are doing now. I realize that many think we should just pull out.
But I feel that we must take responsibility for our actions.
Like it or not... we broke it...and we will be paying for it for a long time to come.
The Defense Minister made it sound like they were expecting enough troops to protect their borders until then. That's at least 50,000. I agree, we broke it and we have an obligation, but that sounds like a very expensive proposition. What kind of leverage do we have to push them into getting their own security up to the task? And why aren't they building an "Armed Forces"? That's what's really messed up in Iraq, we can't trust them with their own tanks and fighter jets, apparently.
Thanks Huck for the blog, and thanks to Sturange and Publicat for the invitations. Like others here this is my first blog experience...I think it will be a nice, FRIENDLY change of pace!
I think the best thing to do is to give them another dictator. This is the manner in which they operate best. Give them someone who can keep the different factions inline - and get our boys out of there.
I am not an isolationist. But the war is wrong - and in terms of rebuilding infrastructure, etc. we are getting no where. I would like to see us get out - put the UN in - and give our boys a chance to get their lives back.
Whatever we do, we own the mess, true enough, but we have since the original gulf war. What power do we have to force Iraq anywhere? I see none. All we have is the judgement of the rest of the world and whatever potential reaction they can muster to force our hand, we've (Bush has) ignored all of that up to this point. We can threaten them, or we can ask them...but they also know it is us who owe them. World retalliation is mainly considered to be threat of terrorist attacks and/or UN blockage-against american interests both abroad and at home. It is precarious...even quagmire-like. We need a thumbs up, thumbs down in here...I'll see what I can do about that...
...And let me add my own personal thanks to Huck for this blog. I had originally found the AOL board as an "outlet" where I could diffuse some o my anger for a government run amok in its unquencheable desire for more and uncontested power, while compensating wealthy supporters with the average citizen's taxed dollars.
If, as Shakespeare wrote, the "evil that men do lives after them.." I sure hope that the souls of all who have died for this despotic regime, haunts this current cabal to their last sorry breath.
You guys are going to think this is strange for the Old FarmGal but I have tears in my eyes because I was invited to this blog.
Thank you and I'm honored to be able to read and post maybe.
The last month has been like something out of a bad WWII movie where the Nazis actually came to my house and took control of my account with XXX.
Whew, a lot of great stuff here to read and think about.
I came to the war board out of anger and pain, not just because my Son was there, but because I had no understanding of why any of us were there. The board was an ok place to vent, true. I have found quite a few like minded good solid people there as well as what for the life of me is, for lack of better words, bizarro land. As I read and saw the singlemindedness of some of the people there, it bagan to dawn on me just how badly our Country has drifted.
Have just entered the blog via Sturange (thanks) and feel humbled to be invited. I'll try to behave, yet I'm still nervous and feel like someone's looking over my shoulder waiting to TOS me. Hopefully, as they say, time shall heal all. Thanks again, and I'll be checking in periodically...
SkylerWolf has asked me to let You all know that he has been ill and will join us as soon as Mrs Skyler let's him out of bed.
He also asks me to thank You, Huck
Thanks Huck for giving us all a place to meet. Thanks to everyone who sent me an invite. Really looking forward to sharing my thoughts without having to worry about my account.
Merrilou
Hey Everyone!
Thanks for hosting the party, Huck, and thanks for the invite, Sturange.
Now, down to business: ROBO CAN SUCK MY B....huh? He's not here? Nevermind. (Dang, I had almost forgotten what talking with grownups was like.)
We're up against some pretty devious and sophisticated minds in trying to get our country back. (No, NOT robo and Doc.) I'm talking about the geniuses on the other side who manipulate the English language to almost-certainly guarantee demonization of ANYthing non-GOP.
Take the phrase "Democrat" Party. they claim they use that term because it's somehow "correct". Not so. They call it that because to call it the "Democratic" Party would be to ascribe a virtue to their political opponants, and this they will never do.
If something is "Democratic" ie: "in the manner of democracy", well, that's a GOOD thing. Can't associate something GOOD with the party of Bill Clinton, now can we?
These guys are brilliant, ruthless, and well-organized. The DemocratIC Party had better get their collective shit together and start going after these bastards.
Amen.

Amen to that, Rev Ted, Amen
"World peace through nonviolent means is neither absurd nor unattainable. All other methods have failed. Thus we must begin anew. Nonviolence is a good starting point. Those of us who believe in this method can be voices of reason, sanity, and understanding amid the voices of violence, hatred, and emotion. We can very well set a mood of peace out of which a system of peace can be built."
----Martin Luther King, Jr., December 1964
Thanks Struange , I'm glad to be invited to the party, where REAL people can express themselves, Lsv.
World peace starts with US,the people within our nation, we must learn to love one another, and GROW. Take care of home, first, before we worry about some unstable nation that don't have no self control.
Good Morning All,
There's about 5 inches of snow and now it's sleeting to top off this beautiful winter scene.
It looks like a Christmas card out there BUT I did not prepare for this in the usual way of buying 10 gallons of water, several gallons of milk, cornmeal (? why), flour (baking maybe?) and other items that increase Food City's bottom line by 100s of dollars. Now Farm Guy is looking in the pantry and saying "We're all gonna dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" because we have only about a month's supply of supplies.
I love the feeling of this blog because I'm fairly certain I won't have to read some garbage about something ____________ (insert any situation here) being the Democrats' fault.
Thanks Huck, this blog is a great idea.
Thanks Sturange, for the invite,
and hello to all.
I also received an e-mail from ericsgarden in which he said he thought this would simply be "blogging to the choir".
I see he hasn't posted yet, but let me say I couldn't disagree more.
There is much information out there to be shared and discussed. We are all driven by our desire to reclaim our government and restore America to a place of dignity. This is a job that never ends.
Case in point: We must be ever vigilant to maintain the integrity of our election process.
I highly recommend "HOW TO RIG AN ELECTION: CONFESSIONS OF A REPUBLICAN OPERATIVE" - BY ALLEN RAYMOND.
Rather than post a review myself, you can read reviews on Amazon.
Stay informed, work on your local level and we can change things.
Ray
I'm with you, ray...I'll get everything set up where it is more user friendly. I'm new at this as well and work during the day at the moment. I replied to Erik: "I agree to an extent, erik. If you want to spread the word past your immediate circle, however, come share...anytime. It is a war between the serious and the silly....I see no need to sink to being silly in order to fight sillyness. I tend to let them be silly and find a way to a place where intellectual conversation is not just an urban myth. There are those who have no motive other than to cause shit...pardon my french, but shit-starters fall on both sides and involve all walks of life. They just want under someone's skin. I don't care about them....those who I enjoy reading and hearing from (you included) are the people who can communicate an Idea or fact in a CONSTRUCTIVE way, regardless of dogma or affiliation, or membership in some group or another. Be a part of it, or be apart from it...that's your call, just know you are welcome to join anytime...no problem. No issue too large or too small....that's my mantra."
Thanks again Struange, for showing me this post, now I can express my view about this war , which no solution has been made to end the madness. This circus by the Bush administration has been a three ring joke, and this clown must go. The world scene has been wrecked by the most inept son of a bitch this nation ever spat out.
Thanks Huck for the invite, and to you Struange for showing me this.
Thanks for the great blog Huck. You rock!
And thank you for the invite Sturange, you already know I love ya.
Can't wait to read more commits and posts on here.
It is alot to keep fresh content in here, but I am asking for "a little help from my friends", as the Beatles so aptly put it. I am going to get this particular corner of the net set up where we can all come and discuss or debate without fear of harrassment or being bullied. Within a coup[le of weeks you should see the difference. Come on in, sit a spell, kick your shoes off...it's alot like Skault's filter, just not as easy to get into...lol.
as a new attachment, Skaultmath's filter will be up and running tonight.
Hi, this is Lsv, how are you doing?
